Bungalows, chalets, gypsy caravans, or just a pitch to set up your tent… Located in the heart of Strasbourg's Urban Nature Park, the Strasbourg Campsite is the perfect spot for your holiday if you're looking to unwind in nature while staying close to the city. I had the chance to try it out with my family, and I share my experience with you.
Strasbourg’s Citykamp Campsite
This 4-star campsite, open all year round, offers 115 pitches, either shaded or sunny, nestled in a lovely 3-hectare park. With various types of accommodation on offer, you’ll have plenty of options for a comfortable stay. Between the swimming pool, playground, and bike rental, you’ll also find all the facilities you need to enjoy a great holiday.
The campsite is located in the southwest of Strasbourg, in the Montagne Verte neighbourhood. It’s not the most touristy part of town, but here’s an interesting tidbit: this is where the famous printer Gutenberg once lived, near the Saint-Arbogast convent. There’s even a monument dedicated to him on Gutenberg Island, accessible via a small bridge.
It’s a very green area, with lots of community gardens and waterways, including the Bruche Canal. What’s also convenient is that there are essential services right next to the campsite, like a bakery, a pharmacy, and a petrol station.
Finally, it’s a pretty practical location since you’re only about 10 minutes from the city centre by bike (along the cycle path by the water) or by public transport (tram B – “Montagne Verte” stop or bus L1 – “Camping” stop). For those up for it, you can even walk to the city centre in 30 minutes by following the cycle path.
What accommodation options are available?
There’s something for everyone! If you’re feeling adventurous, you can choose a pre-pitched tent or opt for a camping pitch to set up your own tent. If you’re travelling by motorhome, you’ll also find a spot to settle in at the campsite. Prices for pitches start from €20 per night with the Huttopia Camping Card.
For my holidays, I wanted a bit more comfort. I had the choice between a Montana chalet and a mobile home. I opted for the Montana chalet, which I found particularly charming with its open terrace overlooking nature and its cosy wooden interior. If you’re staying in winter, there’s a wood stove available, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in the living area. The cottages are made of wood, which fits nicely with the natural spirit that the campsite aims to promote.
On-site facilities
I really appreciated the range of services offered at the campsite. For instance, we rented a barbecue during our stay. The campsite also provides a baby kit (cot + high chair), fridges, and bikes (standard or electric) available on request at reception.
As for dining, you can order fresh bread and pastries the night before for the next morning, and there’s also a restaurant on-site. The local speciality, tarte flambée, is on the menu. Personally, I enjoyed having a good coffee at the restaurant bar after lunch. If you need to do some light shopping, the reception offers some basic products and regional wines.
Wi-Fi is available for free throughout the campsite, and there’s also an internet terminal at reception. However, the internet connection isn’t the best—but hey, holidays are also a time to disconnect, right?
There are laundry facilities and sanitary blocks centrally located for those camping in tents or motorhomes, as well as electrical hookups at each pitch.
Activities at the campsite: swimming pool, playground, entertainment…
I visited Strasbourg Campsite with my family, and we enjoyed the various activities available for holidaymakers. During the day, you can relax by the heated swimming pool and soak up the sun on the loungers. For the more active guests, there’s a volleyball court and a pétanque (boules) area next to the pool.
If you’ve got children, there are plenty of activities for them at the campsite. A large playground with a slide, swings, and a ping pong table is located opposite the restaurant. And while there’s no beach in Strasbourg, the campsite thoughtfully added a sandpit for the kids’ enjoyment.
To make the most of your evenings, the campsite has a pool table and a table football game in the games room next to reception. Our evening table football matches quickly became a family ritual. The campsite also offers evening entertainment, such as live music at the bar/restaurant.
What to do near the campsite?
The campsite’s location allows you to enjoy the natural surroundings while also exploring Strasbourg. You can rent bikes directly at the campsite. The cycle paths leading to the city centre are in excellent condition, making it easy to reach the heart of Strasbourg in 15 minutes.
Strasbourg City Card - 7-Day City Pass
Explore Strasbourg with a 7-day city pass that offers discounted rates for attractions and activities. Climb up the Strasbourg Cathedral, take a guided walking tour, or visit the Château Vodou Museum.
If you’re looking for a quiet and natural spot, I recommend taking a stroll in Parc Eugène Imbs, just next to the campsite. It’s the perfect place for a workout, reading quietly on a bench, or letting your kids play in the park’s playgrounds.
The closest museum to the campsite is the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMCS). If you’re up for it, you can walk to the museum in 20 minutes from the campsite. This must-see attraction in Strasbourg invites you to discover works by Strasbourg artists and other renowned artists. And after your visit, you’re just steps away from the Petite France district.
